13-year-old California swimmer dies after experiencing symptoms of COVID-19


A 13-year-old swimmer in Claremont, California died last Thursday after experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 since July 4, CBSLA reported. The boy, Maxx Cheng, swam through the bush. Baldy Aquatics.

He reportedly tested negative for the virus approximately a week before his death, but was still quarantined in his room.

“Nausea, vomiting, chest pain,” her sister Charlotte told CBSLA. “That list that appears, a little bit, in that initial search, had all those symptoms.” An autopsy is expected to determine the cause of death, including whether Maxx had COVID-19, in the near future.

Maxx’s symptoms seemed to improve last week, according to her sister. “There was almost no cough,” said Charlotte. “The fever had dropped three days before her death.”

“We went to see how he was [Thursday]like we usually do, “Charlotte said.” He wasn’t responding. We found him passed out in the room.

According to CBSLA, the Cheng family said they had been very careful during the pandemic, “so they did not know where the disease may have contracted.”

A group of local mothers established a GoFundMe to help the Cheng family cover the funeral expenses, and any excess will go toward college funds for Charlotte and Maxx’s twin brother, Leo.

“Maxx Cheng was one of the best young men in Claremont who recently got lost during this pandemic,” says GoFundMe. “Maxx was athletic, smart, fun and mature, and was elected president of the Chaparral Elementary class before leaving for El Roble. He played the viola with the El Roble orchestra, was part of the El Roble Debate and Speech team and competed in swimming ”.
