ZZ Top had a change of heart after canceling their concert at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for the first time … because the band played on Saturday against a packed, maskless audience.
Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill en Frank Beard took the stage at the Full Throttle Saloon and filled the room with Texas blues-rock. The rally, which will draw an estimated 250,000 people, always attracts great named artists, so it’s no surprise that hundreds of people turned up.
Willie Nelson and Lynyrd Skynard were also scheduled to perform at the 9-day event, but were canceled due to the pandemic. Other artists still scheduled to perform include Molly Hatchet, The Guess Who, Night Ranger, 38 Special, Smash Mouth and others.
The bar was packed and there was almost no social distance, and many medical people are worried that this will become a super spreading event. That was clearly not on the heads of the salon audience.
The people who live in this small town are in a pickle because a rally like this is clearly dangerous during a pandemic. That said, the annual rally rallies to $ 800 miles for residents in the area, and economic survival is top of mind. Still, masks and some social distance would be nice … especially for unsuspecting people who later encounter riders who have contracted COVID.
