Zoom is down, we are finally free

Video conferencing giant Zoom is experiencing widespread streaming, with users in the US and UK reporting problems with video calls.

DownDetector shows outages in North America and some parts of Europe, while Zoom’s own status page reports issues with meetings and webinars. Chat, phone and other help services seem to work fine, but that does not mean much if you can not use the app for its main function.

It’s never good for a major service like Zoom to go, of course, but video conferencing software has come alive in the pandemic. A search for complaints on Twitter shows many people are annoyed that they miss meetings and classes. It also shows that many people are left that they miss and miss classes. It’s actually a Monday, and sometimes a last-minute rehearsal is all you’ve hoping for when you wake up.

According to Zoom’s tweets, the company is currently investigating the outages and will provide updates via its social media channels when service is restored. We will also keep things going and will update this story as we hear more.

In the meantime: go! Enter the hills! Forget this life for good and never come back!
