The advent of COVID-19 caused a rapid growth in the demand for video conferencing apps, as school classes and office meetings went virtual everywhere. Google Meet and Google Duo added support for group video chats on smart displays earlier this summer, but now another popular fan is on condition to join the club: Zoom will be available on Google’s smart displays later this year, Facebook and Amazon.
Today, Zoom announced support for many of the most popular smart displays, including the Amazon Echo Show, Facebook Portal, and Google Nest Hub Max. Google confirmed the news with its own post, confirming that Zoom will come to “Assistant-enabled Smart Displays” in general.
Upcoming Zoom meetings will start appearing in late fall as maps on Nest smart displays.
As for a timeline, it looks like Facebook is up first. Zoom on Portal will be available to the public in September via a new Zoom app that will be added to the smart display. Hardware support for Amazon and Google will follow later this year in the form of voice assistant and calendar integration allowing the devices to view upcoming meetings and support voice commands to participate.
