YouTube finally enables HDR support on Xbox consoles

YouTube is finally enabling HDR support on Microsoft .ft’s Xbox consoles. HDR support works on existing Xbox One S / X devices and new consoles like the Xbox Series X and Series S, so long as you have HD or video capable of displaying HDR videos, the YouTube app will now automatically switch to output HDR content .

The YouTube app on the Xbox has never supported HDR before, even though HDR has been available on PlayStation 4 since 2019. The PS5 and Xbox Series X both launched in November without YouTube HDR support, and are not yet available on the PS5 – a step back from what was available on the PS4.

Engage Note that you can be sure that the HDR output is properly enabled from the YouTube app on the Xbox x by enabling the “Statistics for Nerves” panel (see above). Many TVs will also display an HDR prompt or switch to HDR mode when the content is played.

Now we need more HDR content to be available on YouTube. Some of the best HDR content on YouTube is still a test of videos uploaded years ago. We’re starting to see more trailers and videos with HDR options, but a huge number of producers don’t upload content with HDR.
