Thanks to adjustments made to notifications on Android in recent years, ever faster functionality has been added to help save time and effort. It seems to have expanded since you can set reminders within Google Keep for notifications.
When you receive a notification that contains information that your system considers remarkable, that is, buy milk, you will get a “Set reminder” trigger from Google Keep within the message notification (via Android Police) It is worth noting that this only appears to appear when using selected messaging apps.
After tapping a notification, your device will open Google Keep, where you can set a reminder with previously completed information. Due to the link between Google Keep, Google Assistant and Calendar, you will see a reminder in all three places simultaneously.
Android Police also notes that this feature appears to be not limited to Google Keep, as you can even set reminders within Google Tasks. However, it doesn’t seem like third-party apps and services like Todoist can’t take advantage of this.
We have not been able to activate the triggers, but it seems that people have been able to get the “Set reminder” option working with WhatsApp and Telegram. Triggers are a bit tricky for all accounts, too. Some messages seem to give you the option, but others with slightly different wording eliminate the possibility of setting a reminder.
Messages like “don’t forget x” or “please buy x” seem to trigger the Settings Reminder Trigger for Google Keep / Tasks, which is more consistent. The options don’t seem to show up in the Google app either, which seems a bit odd, but it’s typical of these new features.
It’s unclear why the ability to set notification reminders for selected apps appears in popular third-party messaging apps and not in Google’s own messages. The feature could be tied to the recent security patch, a beta version of Google Play Services, or even Device Personalization Services, the latter of which is responsible for smart actions within notifications.
Have you been able to set reminders in Google Keep or Tasks since you updated to the last security patch? Be sure to let us know in the comment section below.
