Yonkers crash: 5 killed in horrific crash in New York’s Westchester County

Yonkers, Westchester County (WABC) – Police in Yonkers now say five people have been killed in a violent, two-car accident that split a vehicle in half.

The vehicles crashed on Riverdale Avenue in Culver Street around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday night.

One car was so badly damaged that it split in half.

Surveillance video of a nearby gas station, at the top of the screen, shows the moment of impact.

One resident described the horrific scene.

“I heard a very loud voice. Unusual. Never saw anything bad. So I went to the window because I live nearby and a man was watching me running and said, ‘Oh my God, oh my!'” Maria Delgado said. “I come out dressed and the car is split in half with the corpses on one side and this side … and the white car is the opposite of the way it was coming.”

Five people, including four, were killed in a car crash. Two were pronounced dead at the scene.

Several others were taken to hospital. The extent of the other injuries was not immediately clear.

Police closed Riverdale Avenue for more than eight hours to determine if it was okay to cause an accident.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spa was talking to investigators at the scene overnight and surveying the damage.

Neighbors say speeding is a problem on this wide open avenue.

“I’m very nervous because I drive and I live here,” said Maria Delgado. “I pass by this street many times, but I always see ….” The roads are very good, you know, there are lines and everything. There shouldn’t be too many accidents. People are driving recklessly. “
