Yarntown is a new version of Bloodborne in a classic Zelda style

If you’re a fan of Bloodborne and Zelda, you’ll be delighted to know that independent developer Max Mraz has turned them into Yarntown, a classic top-down version of Zelda in the Gothic blockbuster from FromSoftware.

Yarntown takes place in the center of Yharnam and is completed by the fights of the heads of the Beast of the Cleric and Father Gascoigne. Gascoigne even has his maddening clumsiness.

Mraz originally posted details of the game on his Twitter, including a short clip of Yarntown in action. Check it out:

“So I made Bloodborne but it’s also super cute and a little bit Zelda,” Mraz wrote.

You can watch a more detailed video below, featuring both boss fights and all the main areas in Central Yharnam.

“Created by Max Mraz on the impressive Solarus engine, Yarntown is a tribute to FromSoftware’s Bloodborne 2015 game, which recreates the entire Central Yharnam area in a top-down Zelda-inspired style,” reads the freegameplanet description. .

“You start the game in the Hunter’s Dream area (where you can go back and upgrade your weapon whenever you want) and then you can hit the streets of downtown Yharnam.”

The combat is more aligned with the Zelda style than the Bloodborne variant, probably due to the top-down aesthetic of the game. However, it uses Bloodborne-like stamina and health bars, as well as vials of blood and mercury bullets.

“It’s much easier than Bloodborne, and Zelda-style combat is pretty simple, but it’s nice to return to Central Yarnham and stroll the Gothic streets from a top-down perspective,” the description concludes. “It’s a great little tribute to FromSoftware’s masterpiece and it’s nice to have a fight with Father Gascoigne, where she doesn’t just kick your butt repeatedly to change.”

You can download Yarntown for free at Itch.io. Since we haven’t heard anything else about the Bloodborne remake rumors yet, it’s definitely worth giving the Zelda release a spin.

Or, you could look at the Soulsian Mortal Shell, which Sherif called “the right kind of Souls.” It will be out later this year, and many people love their cats.
