Yankees Minority Forces Ask Team To Explain ‘Join Us’


Amid protests over various professional sports, including their own, the Yankees played a double header on Wednesday, and now two of their own underage armies are calling on them to take a stand.

Chris Gittens and Canaan Smith-Njigba are asking the Yankees, on Thursday, to do something after the shooting in the back of African-American man Jacob Blake by police in Kenosha, Wisc. every Sunday.

On Wednesday, three NBA games were not played after the Bucks boycotted their playoff game. It resulted in three MLB games not being played, no WNBA games being played and five MLS games being postponed. That leaked out Thursday, with four baseball games already postponed and the NBA continued to postpone the postseason, though players agreed they would resume in the coming days.

“I really need my team to make a statement,” Gittens said. a black first basemen tweeted. “You have guys in your organization who need to see that you are with us and not about money !!! Do not be silent !!!! #BLM. ”

Smith-Njigba, also black, quote-tweeted him, writing, “@Yankees be with us.”

The Yankees are scheduled to play a double game against the Mets on Friday to start a five-game series this weekend. The Mets played their game against the Marlins on Wednesday night and are scheduled to play Miami again at Citi Field on Thursday night.
