The Yankees grabbed their fifth straight win on Sunday night, beating the Red Sox 4-2. A quick, small victory that further buried Boston. I’ll take it! We’ll be recording a bit again, but in the meantime here are some highlights:
Winners of the game
JA Happ set up with his job up in the rotation on the line. Or at least it looked like that. Happ threw 5.2 innings from one ball, a solo shot from Kevin Pillar’s ball, but otherwise kept Boston’s lineup in check. He struck out three, ran two, and allowed three hits. It was a perfectly fine start, nothing flashy, but these days, when it comes to Happs, that counts as a big win. He probably deserves another start.
Mike Ford gets the nod for a big night out, too. He went 2-for-4 with a home team, and those hits could not have been more different: a 73.5 mph bloop single, and a flourishing 102.9 mph home run. The man still has the Stacast range, apparently.
Honorable Mement: The ESPN2 Statcast broadcast absolutely rules; Bob Kendrick also rules
Loser of the game
A 3:05 game between the Yankees and Red Sox on Sunday night? The Yankees coming out on top? Hard to complain about what’s there. Go take the whip tomorrow.
