  • Xiaomi and Qualcomm are reportedly working on a set of GPU Turbo features.
  • This would allow you to choose various performance profiles for the GPU.
  • It could also allow users to adjust settings like smoothing and anisotropic filtering.

Many current smartphones have features to improve gaming performance, such as Huawei’s Turbo GPU and Oppo’s Hyper Boost technologies. This is in addition to dedicated performance modes that increase overall system performance at the expense of battery life.

However, it looks like Xiaomi and Qualcomm could take things to a higher level, as ice expert Ice Universe claims the duo is working on a new GPU Turbo suite for the rumored Mi 10 Pro Plus. Check out the tweet and accompanying screenshots below.

The images show the ability to choose different GPU performance profiles, i.e. default, save energy, balanced, high quality and a custom profile. Pick the latter and you’ll have some nifty PC-like settings to tweak, like Anisotropic Filtering, Texture Filtering, and Smoothing.

It is unclear whether this setting would apply to all games in general (similar to the Nvidia Control Panel on PC) or whether developers would explicitly need to support GPU Turbo to take advantage of these settings. However, it would be quite interesting if the most granular visual controls were coming to smartphones, giving you the tools to get the visual performance / balance you want.

We have asked Qualcomm for feedback on the leak and whether the alleged feature could reach other phones. We will update the article if / when they reply to us.
