Xbox streaming via Game Pass is actually available tomorrow

More than a month early

Xbox Game Pass and Project xCloud will formally merge on September 15th. That’s when Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will gain access to Xbox’s Xbox game streaming platform, available on Android devices.

“Formal” is the operative word because, as it turns out, it actually happens tomorrow. In a statement to The Verge, Microsoft announced that it will launch a new Xbox Game Pass beta app on August 11th. It’s more or less an open beta. Anyone who signs up for Game Pass Ultimate and downloads the app from the Google Play Store can access it. There is no need to register.

The only real caveat is that the beta does not have the full streaming library of Xbox Game Pass. That is expected to make it to the top 100 titles, but the beta is limited to 30ish games. However, Project xCloud has been running until September 11, and it will apparently keep its current lineup of games. For now, the Xbox streaming library is split between the two apps – a bit awkward but understandable – but it will eventually merge all on September 15th. It also appears that Microsoft intends to drop the xCloud designation for game streaming.

However, there is no need to wait for streaming of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, as it will be here (albeit in limited capacity) tomorrow. However, it is only on Android. If you’re an iOS user, you probably would not have to wait your breath for Xbox streaming to get to your iPhone.
