The Xbox One family of consoles appears to have been discontinued in the run-up to the launch of its successor later this year.
Australian gaming site Press Start reports that Microsoft’s Australian website no longer includes the updated Xbox One or Xbox One X, but only offers the cheapest Xbox One S and next-generation device Xbox Series X.
Press Start also claims to have confirmation from EB Games and JB Hi-FI, both prominent retail chains in the region, that the Xbox One X has been removed from their systems, preventing them from ordering more stocks.
Console listings have been removed from its website and its Amazon stores.
Meanwhile, the British newspaper Metro reports that Amazon and major American retailer Target have tagged the entire line of Xbox One consoles as discontinued.
A scan on Amazon USA shows that various retailers have marked Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox One S, and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition as discontinued. Some packages remain listed as normal, although these almost always have limited stock.
Xbox Series X won’t launch until later in the year, with the next glimpse of Microsoft’s plans for the console coming next week through another showcase of live games.
GamesIndustry.biz He has reached out to Xbox for comment and clarification, as well as UK retailers to see if they have the same issues.
To update: As our sister site Pure Xbox discovered, a Microsoft executive has already confirmed that the Xbox One S has not been discontinued.
In response to a Twitter user regarding the Amazon listing, Xbox console business planning leader Dan Tavares said the low-end device “is still available.”
“We just changed the SKU numbers,” he added. “Amazon is messy in how they display products.”
Tavares does not currently appear to have commented on the availability of the original Xbox One X or Xbox One.
