If you expected Xbox Game Pass to be available soon on PlayStation or Nintendo Switch, you might be waiting even longer for that dream to come true.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer said in a video interview with GameStar that the probability of the subscription service, which offers games on Xbox and PC, being launched on a Sony or Nintendo platform is low. While it was always a wild dream that the service would be available on PlayStation, Microsoft and Nintendo have recently started offering crossover games and some Microsoft games, like Ori and the blind forest and Blade of Hell, have been released on the Nintendo Switch.
But Spencer says the full Xbox experience, which includes achievements, the Xbox Live community, and a full game library, won’t translate to different consoles, which he considers a deciding factor.
“The thing about other game console platforms is that we can’t offer a full Xbox experience on those platforms,” Spencer said. “The other competitive platforms are not really interested in having a complete Xbox experience on their hardware. But for us, we want to be where the players want to be and that is the path we are on. ”
Spencer had previously been more outspoken about the idea of a cross-platform Xbox Game Pass as a long-term goal.
