Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will be able to start limiting a limited number of Game Pass games streamed to their phones as part of a new xCloud beta starting August 11th.
“[W]enter a limited beta period to ensure a smooth transition from the cloud gaming experience to the Xbox Game Pass app on Android, ”a Microsoft spokesman told The edge in a statement. The beta lets people who subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate use the service’s existing Android app to stream “a subset of available titles” to their phones. iPhone users, meanwhile, remain happy with Apple’s existing ban on streaming video game apps in the App Store.
This new functionality for the Game Pass app will be separate from the existing Project xCloud Preview app which has been in beta since last year and is set to stop on September 11th. When Game Pass Ultimate streaming launches a few days later on September 15th for real, it will support somewhere near 100 games, including the whole Hello series like goods like Ark: Survival Evolution en Destiny 2. It is not yet clear how many of these will be available to stream once the beta starts tomorrow. Microsoft did not immediately respond to a request for comment Kotaku for comment.
I have tried xCloud off and on since last year using the Preview app, and are impressed with how well the experience holds together. Even when the service was not running super smoothly, it was still nice to pick up games on the fly while watching TV or commute to work to slowly chip them off. Now if I could only get it on my Switch.
