WWE SmackDown Results, Recap, Grade: BitterSweet Night for New Day Highlights One Night in WWE Draft

By Friday night, SmackDown was ready to deliver one of the biggest shows of the year on the “Blue Brand”. While the WWE Draft brought a few surprises, the biggest move and a bit of an exciting match, showing a little above average.

The big news coming out of the event was the first day of the WWE Draft, which promised to shake things up in both SmackDown and Raw locker rooms. While it wasn’t largely accomplished, it split into one of the best-selling groups in the WWE when New Day members Coffee Kingston and Xavier Woods returned from injury, only to be immediately separated from fellow team member Big E.

CBS Sports was with you all night on Friday, bringing results, highlights and grades for all of the night’s action. Read on to see what came down on SmackDown.

Beatersweight draft day for the new day

Big E Def. Shames by Pinfall A waterfall count matches anywhere after a big finish. Surprisingly, things got out of the ring early, Big E hit the spear with a rope. With that, Shemus tied the Big E to the rope and used the chemo stick until he could walk on the Big E way until he took the stick on the Shemus and tapped the Shemus foot before using it. After the business break, the action went backstage and eventually into the parking garage. Shamus used a tire iron and repeatedly slammed the Big E with the car door. The Big E, bloodied passing through the windshield of the car, fought back from the trunk of the car and through the table for victory to bump into the Big Ending. Later in the show, Coffee Kingston and Xavier Woods return to celebrate with the Big E and say they want to win the team title again later in the night.

SmackDown Tag Team Championship – New Day (Xavier Woods and Coffee Kingston) Def. By Sinro and Shinsuk Nakamura Pinf fall to win the title Xavier Woods after a rope-walk walk elbow. Cesaro Cesaro was swinging as Wakude knocked Nakamura down. With that Woods arranging the finish hitting the elbows of the rope-walker to win back the tiles, the belt was again placed around the waist of the new day. This marks the team’s seventh time as the SmackDown tag team champion. Immediately after their victory, Woods and Kingston were announced to be placed in Rome while Big Ino smck was downgraded.

The draft was not surprising on the whole, but the draft had a huge loophole in logic when Ray chose to draft Woods and Kingston, but Big E. There is no way to make sense of that decision as it was made clear New Day drafted thoroughly. Can – Hurt business was put on as a group of four at night. The Big E qualifies to run legal singles, but you can’t tell people to postpone the full meaning of their logical thinking because this is a wrestling race. Both matches were taken as individual moments, but the draft as an extravagant story failed to make any sense. Grade: C-

Announced two more Hell in Sale matches

The Roman rulers announced the terms of his Hell in Sale for the next pay-view. G. Uso demanded that Raines tell him that the rules for his match with the Rings would be in Hell in a Cell. He was stopped by Paul Heyman on Tron, Hayen told Uso that things happen at the time of the Rhine, before the video package reminded Uso what happened when they were facing the Clash Champion. Then Rule appeared on the screen and cut the promo saying that U Son needs to accept him in his last match. And now, for the first time, in Hell in a Cell, ‘I Quit’ will match. The regime then said so gold will say “I have given up” then its consequences will come.

SmackDown Women’s Championship – Sasha Banks Def. Bailey (c) by impropriety Belle then used a steel chair. Banks flew over the ballet from the opening bell, causing the champion Bangs to try his hand at the ring and head back stage before he could pull back. Bailey picked up items with a line of clothing, attacking Banks’ previously injured neck. As the banks tried to fight back, Bailey used a steel chair, hit the banks in the stomach, forced disqualification, and Bailey retained his degree. After the match, Belle tried to attack Banks from a chair, but Banks turned things over on the champ, wearing him from a chair in the middle of the ring. Banks then stuck Belle’s head in the chair, trying to repel Bailey’s attack on her for weeks, but Bailey managed to escape the chair – and the ring – to avoid further damage. Later in the show, Banks said he would face Bailey in the next PPV in Hell in a Cell match.

Bailey v. Banks & Rhines Vs. The match confirmation amount goes up to three in the Hell in a Cell match cell that Uson added to the PPV, tying the record of the cell match amount on a single card. No further matches will be added for the sale, but there is a big risk of having your three big gimmick matches on the sins show. That said, Raines v. Uso, to tell some of the best story in recent WWE history and Banks v. Grade: B-

What else happened on WWE SmackDown?

  • In the first round of the WWE Draft, Roy selected Drew McIntyre, Asuka and The Hurt Business, while SmackDown selected Roman Raines and Seth Rollins. Rollins is the first big change of the night, with the rest of the choices locking champion – Hurt Business’ Bobby Lashley, who holds the United States Championship – included in their current brands. Rollins needs a massive refresh as it has run out of new options on raw. Rollins cut the promo after the first round, saying it was about his message, not the brand’s and that he was finally thrilled to be a SmackDown superstar. Rollins said he’s sad that he won’t be there to see the mystery of the Mysterio family, although he’s happy to never see their disgusting faces again, after an hour it won’t prove to be.

  • In the second round of the WWE Draft, Roy drafted AJ Styles, Naomi, Nia Jacques and Shayna Bazzler, while SmackDown selected Sasha Banks and Bianca Bellair. Styling was a big change of round, while Bellaire represents a potentially big move for SmackDown, with a very high ceiling and potential as a title challenge in the near future.

  • Matt Riddle and Jeff Hardy Def. By Miz and John Morrison Pinf fall After Ridley hit Miz with Bro Derek. Basic tag match with the temporary team beating the establishment team. After the match, Lars Sullivan returned, easily dismissing Riddle and Hardy. Sullivan then turned his attention to Miz and Morrison, taking them out before they were left alone to finish the segment.

  • In Round 3 of the WWE Draft, Roy drafted Ricochet, Mandy Rose and Miz and John Morrison, while SmackDown selected Jay So So and Dominic & Ray Mysterio. The big change here is bringing Mysterios to SmackDown where he joins Seth Rollins, who only changes brands from quarrels, because nothing really refreshes. Beyond that, Meez and Morrison will be fresh in the raw tag section, but without expecting big things.

  • In Round 4 of the WWE Draft, Roy selected New Day, Dana Brooke and Angel Garza, while SmackDown drafted Big E and Otis. Naturally, the big news here is that New Day broke out, new tag champs, Coffee Kingston and Xavier Woods, stayed on Rock and Big E on SmackDown. There’s a huge hole in the logic here where Raw could have picked up the new three-day members, but didn’t choose to take the Big Inn, in that round it’s also worth noting that Otis was prepared but not a piece by SmackDown.

  • “The Find” Bray White Def. Kevin Owens by Pinfall After the mandatory paw la after. Owens, on several occasions, led The Fend to a fight that seemed close to the match to win the count-out, but The Fend kept it down every time it felt like it was down and out. Two pop-up powerbomb attempts from Owens were not enough to force The Friend to stand in the ring and re-enter the ring. Owns weren’t enough to break the spectacular hold before hitting the kidneys with a hold still held to protect the pinf fall by the phones.
