WWE Raw results, resap, responses (Aug 17, 2020): Foreshadowing

Bayley and Sasha came out for the women’s tag contest to announce that Asuka was the Empress of Dumb for thinking she would hit one of them at SummerSlam.

But, with whom should she encounter first?

Bayley said Sasha would be against her first, then Sasha said Bayley should be against her first, they went back and forth. But in a bit of a predicament, Sasha said because Bayley is her existence, she wants her to go first, and Bayley accepted. Shayna and Asuka came out and Shayna first said that after the pay-per-view she would re-examine who the Raw women’s champion is. Asuka then said that Shayna had to work with her last night in the match last night.

That started the match, and almost immediately Nia Jax burst through a section of plexiglass and attacked Baszler. She brawled backwards and Baszler left Asuka alone in the ring. Bayley said, “No Kairi, no Shayna, no chance!” and I love her so much. And my feed freshened up again for a bit. The role models attempted some double team offense to get the win of the match, but Asuka kept kicking out. Shayna decided to come back and was tagged, and almost lost when Bayley and Sasha did a back stacker / Bayley to make belly combo. Asuka came in to get Sasha out and locked in the Asuka lock on the outside, while Shayna locked in her Kirifuda Clutch to win.

I really enjoyed the ups and downs with Sasha and Bayley before the match, and Sasha was able to convince Bayley to go for her on SummerSlam. I already had the feeling that someone had lost a title.

Maybe, both will. And I think Bayley will be the reason why Asuka becomes Asuka Two Belts. She said she would do anything for her best friend, and I think she will lose her best friend if this help goes wrong.

Another legend down

It was Shawn Michaels’ turn to run down Randy Orton to be a bastard.

Before he came out, he met Drew McIntyre in the back and said he understands how overwhelmed Drew is, but he needs to understand, Randy Orton will use that against him. HBK called him a stud and said yes, it has been difficult, but he can do it. He wants Drew to go to SummerSlam, show everyone who he is, but he wants an advantage – give him space when he goes out against Randy.

Later he said that without Ric Flair there would be no Shawn Michaels, no Triple H, Batista, Big Show, Edge, Christian and no Drew McIntyre. Orton does not have the same gratitude and appreciation, despite Ric mentoring him.

And Randy does the good ol ‘fashionable RKO Outta Nowhere. McIntyre ran out and threw Orton around, but when he went back to check Michaels, Orton gave him the RKO as well.

I’m ready for the game at SummerSlam. To be honest, I will be happy with winning from both men. Orton has had a stellar 2020 and as much as we say the old guard needs to put in the new blood, Orton deserves one last run. I’ve been a fan of him for a long time, and yes, he got boring for a while. He even said that last month! But I would not run it anymore.

As for Drew, his 2020 started with a big Rumble win and he was crowned at WrestleMania 36. His run at the top did not have the best moments, especially the most recent feud for Orton, but the current feud brought a real seriousness Drew needed. He has certainly been one of the best babyface champions in recent memory.

Who do you want to win at SummerSlam?

A little better RETRIBUTION

This is how RETRIBUTION should always be introduced, people.

I enjoyed Drew’s promo at the beginning of the show and the beginning glitch seemed like an oops-a-daisy, but then the shot went backwards and some of the group with clubs and crutches in the production truck.

They destroyed some laptops and forced a guy to cut the feed to USA Network and go commercial as Drew talks. When she returned, the hard cam was the only camera that was used the first few minutes when The Hurt Business came out. Honestly getting Kevin Dunn out of the production truck is a babyface move.

I can only hope this Friday takes them to another level, similar to this show. However, I do not know how much destruction RETRIBUTION can do to the Amway Center.

The rest

Mysteries get revenge – Rey said that by seeing his own flesh and blood in pain and not being able to do anything about it, he felt an anger he had never felt before. He had to be there to protect Dom, to stop hitting, to take hitting himself if necessary. No doctor on this planet will stop him from protecting his son. Dominik thanks his father and said he knew where he was when he signed his contract, and he knows what he needs to do to defend her family, and he will be ready.

Seth said he did not take Rey for an idiot, and yet he stands here in the ring less than a week away from the most important moment in his son’s life, putting him in more danger. Rollins cannot understand why he pushes himself and his son into these situations. Rey begged him to come to the ring with Murphy. They came out and while Rey was driving them off, Dom got kendo sticks and the Mysterios took their revenge.

I’m envious of seeing how Dom does it at SummerSlam. The stipulation for street fighting will help him, but I want to see some wrestling. However, I don’t think he wins, even with Rey in his corner.

Apollo Crews def. Shelton Benjamin / Bobby Lashley Pins Apollo Crews – MVP and the Hurt Business announced RETRIBUTION. Who benefits most from the actions of Retribution, he asked. Apollo Crews does! They showed around the same time that he was fighting Crews for the United States Championship, and that’s no coincidence. Apollo came out and said he knows MVP can not beat him without Lashley and Benjamin. If he wins against Shelton, Hurt Business will be banned from ringside at SummerSlam.

Benjamin tried a Paydirt but it was blocked and Crews hit a nice spinebuster. R-Truth and the ninjas got in the way and distracted Benjamin, and Crews got a jackknife pin to win. MVP set a challenge for Apollo and two men of his choice for US. the Hurt Business in a 6-man elimination tag match. Truth came back and Benjamin picked him up for the 24/7 title.

Before the elimination tag match, Ali was the first to be eliminated. I hate you, WWE. Dan Ricochet. I hate you, WWE. Apollo eliminated Shelton, and Cedric came out of nowhere and picked him up for the 24/7 title. Apollo eliminated MVP, then Lashley saved Apollo for the win. I didn ‘t do anything about it because I absolutely hate WWE for Ali ALREADY! Lashley looked good, as did Apollo. Ali and Ricochet look bad. But that’s par for the course.

Angel Garza def. Ivar – Backstage for this match hung that Bachelor’s wife around and she soon revealed how much of a bad actress she is and I voted. Just be aware that Ivar apparently has powers to pick up turkeys from the floor. The match literally does not matter. What does however, is that Angelo Dawkins and Samoa Joe revealed that some WWE footage has been found.

Zelina got something to explain! – Turns out our girl Zelina Vega was the one who poisoned Montez Ford, and I have to say I’m a little disappointed here. I would rather RETRIBUTION have been the ones behind this. Puppy, I think this is meant to light a fire under Street Profits. I see them retained because the Bachelor woman is likely to be involved in some way.

Montez Ford def. Andrade – Short match and Bianca Belair beat Zelina and Tez took advantage of the distraction.

Natalya wins a … contest? – Most of Mickie James’ rematch was taken over by the Messiah who asked Samoa Joe how he knew Rey Mysterio would be in the building. The camera team prioritizes that interaction over the actual match. This was unfortunate because I was looking forward to the return of Mickie James.

Peyton Royce def. Ruby Riott – ¯ _ (ツ) _ / ¯

Raw Underground – This time we had Erik and Dolph Ziggler where Dolph got him out. Arturo Ruas and Riddick Moss were in a fight and no one won because it broke in the crowd. Shayna brought her friends Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke to Shane, and that got Shafir a match she quickly won. Then Nia Jax appeared and hit Duke and Shayna stepped into the ring to fight her, but she walked away. Underground was better this week, with some longer matches with a more shoot feel. The camera work is still trash.

Samoa Joe played a fun role as an insider, he knew about Rey coming back to the show and the video Angelo Dawkins revealed naked Zelina poisoned Montez. I really liked that little bow on the show. A lot of this show was okay. Worth more YouTube, in my opinion. The best part was the women’s tag match. That’s what I’m most interested in about pay-per-view.

I’m not so excited for ThunderDome because Kevin Dunn is still committed.
