The MVP against United States WWE Champion Apollo Crews did not take place during tonight’s pay-per-view event “The Horror Show at Extreme Rules”.
Tom Phillips announced before the game that Crews is unable to compete due to injury. Crews was noted to be at the Performance Center earlier in the day, eager to compete, but failed his pre-match physical. Crews was also said to have a bulging disc on his back, from Nelson’s recent full attack by Bobby Lashley.
Tonight’s pay per event featured a quick segment where Lashley and MVP came into the ring to joke that Crews was injured. MVP then stated that he is the new champion by loss. He regained the ringside title while the new belt was on display, but there was no official announcement of a title change. MVP is acting like he’s the new champion, but WWE says Crews is still the champion.
Crews has not appeared on RAW since the June 29 episode, which is where Lashley’s attack took place. It is still unknown why he is currently out of action, but the back injury is believed to be only part of the stories. It is not yet known if Crews is out for COVID-19 related reasons.
