Wonder Woman lacks Dolby Atmos on Chromecast in 1984

Before being released in theaters and via streaming tomorrow, HBO Max is confirming the details of how you can watch Wonder Woman 1984 on the new Chromecast with Google TV. Unfortunately, this does not support Dolby Atoms.

Google’s latest streaming stick is a solid option we’ve appreciated for its price and useful interface, and on top of that it also supports most streaming formats for 4K and HDR. It includes Dolby Atoms, but unfortunately, HBO Max lacks the odd support for that audio dio format on Chromecast with Google TV.

On the support page, HBO Max gives full details on how and where you can watch Wonder Woman 1984 in 4K HDR and includes a new Chromecast with Google TV as well as Google’s Chromecast Ultra. Other than that, it can stream with Android TV, Fire TV, Apple Pull TV 4K and enabled Rox Dolby Vision and HDR10 as long as your TV supports.

The HBO Max app recently added support for 4K HDR in its latest app update, but HBO specifically notes that Chromecast with Google TV does not support Dolby Atoms, although the device itself does not support the audio Dio standard with other apps. HBO does not specify any reason for the lack of support, and that is bizarre Only Google’s streamer lacks it.

Wonder Woman 1984 will be the first title on the HBO Max available in 4H Ultra HD, HDR10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The 4K HDR viewing experience will be available on selected 4K devices. Wonder Woman 1984 is also available in HD on all supported devices.

Note: Dolby Atoms is not available on Chromecast with Google TV.

It’s a shame to miss Dolby Atoms on the new Chromecast, but we’re at least happy that 4K HDR will still be available. Hopefully, HBO Max will address any ongoing issues before the launch of the platform’s other major releases this year.
