A Detroit woman was pronounced dead Sunday and sent to a cemetery – only for shocked workers to discover she was still alive.
The woman, who was not identified, was sent by her family to the James H. Cole Funeral Home after she was found unresponsive in her apartment and pronounced dead after paramedics did not restrain her, ABC News reported.
That was when workers at the slaughterhouse made the shocking discovery – they were still breathing.
“While it is our practice not to comment on open investigations, we can confirm that on Sunday, August 23, 2020, we received a call to pick up a Southfield woman who has died,” the funeral said in a statement. statement to ABC.
“Upon arrival at the funeral, our staff confirmed that they were breathing and called EMS.”
The woman was found in her home in downtown Detroit at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Southfield Fire Chief Johnny Menifee told the outlet.
“The paramedics performed 30 minutes of CPS and other life-changing methods,” the boss said. “Seen medical readings and the patient’s condition was determined at that time that she had no signs of life.”
Menifee said firefighters called the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office, and “the patient was resuscitated and the body was immediately released to the family to make arrangements with a funeral of their choice.”
But later that day, funerals called the fire department to tell them they were alive.
“They did the normal medical interventions and that’s when the funeral told them they were going to be ballroom and all that,” Detroit Fire Department Deputy Attorney Dave Fornell told ABC. ‘It surprises our species. We could not believe it. ‘
“I talked to our medical people and they said they were breathing, they had a decent heartbeat, they had decent blood oxygen,” Fornell said. “But they were certainly alive when we got there.”
The woman was transported to Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit, which refused to release any information.
