Atlanta Dream star Renee Montgomery says he disagrees with his boss, stating Senator Kelly Loeffler It is wrong to think that fans will ignite the League’s support for Black Lives Matter’s excess life.
FYI, Senator Loeffler (R-GA) is a co-owner of the dream, and made it clear that it is AGAINST the league’s social justice initiatives that support BLM by claiming that it will affect some WNBA fans in the wrong way.
“I think a lot of people feel like they may not have a place,” Loeffler said. ESPN … “They may feel left out of this sport and other sports that make them feel that American values are not at the center of what we are doing here.”
Loeffler also criticized the Black Lives Matter organization, saying it is very different from the BLM movement, which it strongly condemns.
“The Black Lives Matter political organization advocates for things like cutting funds and abolishing the police, abolishing our military, emptying our jails, destroying the nuclear family. It promotes violence and anti-Semitism. For me, this is not what our league stands for. “
Enter Montgomery … who played 2 seasons with the dream and responded to Loeffler’s comments on the TV show “TMZ Sports”.
Montgomery says it’s great that Loeffler is open to having a deeper 1-to-1 conversation on the subject … but for now, they remain on opposite sides of the fence.
To summarize, Montgomery says that the WNBA is embracing the BLM movement, NOT the group, and is frustrated that certain people like Loeffler are trying to combine them.
Montgomery, an 11-year-old WNBA vet and 2-time WNBA champion, also says she doesn’t think fans will leave en masse because the players are fighting for social justice.
“If it’s going to bother a fan so much that a player wants to promote equality, that a player wants to promote movement, then maybe [those fans] you shouldn’t look at it. “
Montgomery adds: “[Loeffler is] saying that they are going to lose fans, but I think a lot of people will welcome the idea of inclusion. “
Renee also wonders why Loeffler is digging so hard to remain part of a league with such different social values.
“I don’t understand why you would want to be a part of something that has beliefs so different from yours.”
Montgomery recently opted for her third year with the dream of focus on social justice problems, but he has not retired and could rejoin the league next year.
When asked if the crack with Loeffler would deter her from rejoining the Atlanta dream, Montgomery said no … explaining how the organization as a whole has been incredibly supportive.
“I have no problem with the Dream organization.”
