As of Thursday night, no team in the NFL had more players on the reserve / COVID-19 list than the Green Bay Packers.
Matt LaFleur’s team still has five players on the list, and the first practice – scheduled for Saturday – is fast approaching.
Kicker Mason Crosby, tight end Jace Sternberger, long snapper Hunter Bradley, outside linebacker Greg Roberts and defensive lineman Treyvon Hester all remain on the list after being added several times between July 28 and August 3.
As of Thursday, only 23 players remain on the list throughout the NFL. According to the transaction thread, four teams activated from the list on Thursday, but the Packers were not among them.
The Packers have 85 total players on the roster, but with the five still on the reserve list, the team does not have to follow the rules of the split squad for rosters over 80. It is possible GM Brian Good art will have to make several moves if a handful of players can make the list in the coming days.
Serving a full practice can be tricky without the team’s only kicker and long snapper, though Gutekunst only refuses to add two other specialists just to get through an exercise.
LaFleur said Thursday that the Packers are still planning for the first practice on Saturday, with hopes of a time-bound practice on Tuesday or Wednesday.
The Packers also had one player – receiver Devin Funchess – from the 2020 season.
