“The idea that he is an incredibly violent person is the furthest thing from the Johnny I knew and loved. I cannot understand these accusations. He was never, he was never violent towards me. He was never, never abusive at all towards me. He has never been violent or abusive to anyone he has seen.
“I really and honestly only know him as a really good man, an incredibly loving and extremely caring guy who was very protective of me and the people he loves, and I felt very, very safe with him. I don’t want to call anyone a liar, but from my experience with Johnny, it’s impossible to believe that those horrible allegations are true. I find it extremely annoying to meet him like me.
Excerpts from Vanessa Paradis’ statement were also published. The French singer had a relationship with Depp for over 14 years and had two children with him.
She said: “This is nothing like the real Johnny I have ever met, and from my personal experience of many years, I can say that he was never violent or abusive to me. I have seen that these outrageous statements have been really distressing and have also hurt her career because unfortunately people have continued to believe these false facts. This is so disturbing as it has helped so many people in their personal and professional lives, with kindness and generosity. “
It occurs when a 2016 image of Depp with a dark mark under the eye was shown to court. Depp’s chief of security Sean Bett said the image showed an injury allegedly sustained by Heard. “Mr. Depp told me that Ms. Heard had slapped him multiple times,” he said while giving evidence.
In her witness statement, Bett added that she saw the couple “very regularly” during their relationship and “never saw cuts, bruises or other injuries on Ms. Heard.”
He added: “On the contrary, during the course of the relationship between Mr. Depp and Ms. Heard, Ms. Heard was verbally and physically abusive towards Mr. Depp. On many occasions, I witnessed her cry to Mr. Depp. Mr. Depp also told me multiple times that Ms. Heard had physically abused him.
“A very common occurrence throughout the relationship would be that Mr. Depp would cause me and other members of his security team to remove him from Ms. Heard because of his behavior. He would then stay elsewhere. This happened on so many occasions that I cannot recall them all in detail. However, I would describe it as a recurring cycle in which Mrs. Heard would abuse Mr. Depp, who would then withdraw from the situation. “
The trial continues.
