Windows 10 of Visual 10 is getting new file explorer icons

Micro .fit is giving a visual overhaul to Windows Explorer with new icons within Windows 10. The software giant has begun rolling out a test build of Windows 10 that includes changes to the system icons you’ll find in File Explorer, including devices such as Recycle Bin, Documents Folders, and Disk Drives.

Says Amanda Langowski, Windows Insider Chief of MicroSt. “Notably, top-level user folders like desktop, documents, downloads, and pictures have new designs that should make it a little easier to tell apart at a glance.”

Probably boldly, Micros! Ft also notes that “and yes, the Recycle Bin icon has also been updated!” – In the past the company had given clear approval to attempts to recycle bin which did not go down well with Windows users.

These iconic changes to the grand scheme of Windows are fairly small, but they are part of a broader effort within Microsoft to modernize Windows. Microsoft unveiled new system icons for Windows 10 earlier this month, and the company last year updated some of its Windows 10 icons with color versions and also tweaked the Start menu to make it more streamlined.

Microft, codenamed “Sun Valley”, is also planning a “massive visual rejuvenation of Windows”. The company expects more details about its visual plans and the future of Windows in the coming months as part of a dedicated news event.

Icon updates will also come with some tweaks to the layout of File Explorer. MicroSD is adding extra padding between the elements in File Explorer, and there will be a compact mode to return to the classic File Explorer mode. The updated view is slightly more touch-optimized and complements the new icons.
