Windows 10 0x800f0988, 0x800f081f or 0x800f08a errors? you are not alone

The August security update for Windows 10 released by Microsoft last week is causing problems for people running the November 2019 (1909) and May 2020 (2004) updates.

Last Patch Released Tuesday, August 11th, the KB4565351 and KB4566782 updates caused various issues, ranging from failed installations, through error messages and BSoDs to audio issues. For those who are experiencing installation issues, the following message has been reported: “There were some issues installing updates, but we will try again later”. Here’s what you need to know.

Complaints have been posted on Microsoft support forums about issues that arise both during and after installation. Although some people may not be able to install KB4565351 for Windows 10 version 1909 and KB4566782 for Windows 10 version 2004, many of those who do have some problems.

Among the reported bugs are those with the codes 0x800f0988, 0x800f081f and 0x800f08a. Some people who have encountered errors with the automatic installation of the update have enjoyed success with a manual installation through the Microsoft Update Catalog – or you could just choose to ignore updates for a while.

Microsoft has yet to acknowledge any of the reported issues – offering only all solutions – so first you’re on your own when it comes to deciding what to do.
