Cambridges are on vacation! Kate Middleton and Prince William have taken their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, to the Isles of Scilly, an archipelago off the coast of Cornwall in south-west England, as Mirror reports. An inside source told the newspaper: “They decided on a quick getaway before the children returned to school. They were very interested in supporting our travel industry.”

Locals have already seen the royals, as the family cycled on Tresco Island. And it seems that they are in excellent spirits: a spectator told the Mirror“William and Kate rode their bikes, laughing. They looked very happy enjoying the weather.” They added: “I did a double take. They were very nice and greeted me.”

What makes the trip special? It is nostalgic for William, who vacationed in the Isles of Scilly as a child with his parents, Princess Diana and Prince Charles and his brother, Prince Harry. Wondering if you’re introducing Cambridge kids to their favorite childhood places?

The choice of destination also served a practical purpose. Kate and William were reportedly considering a getaway to another part of Europe, but decided to stay in the UK amid the coronavirus crisis. The current closure measures require Brits to be quarantined for two weeks after visiting certain European countries, and that would be a big problem for the Cambridges, who have recently resumed their public duties as royalty. Fortunately for them, the UK is experiencing a heat wave, so like me they can just imagine that they are in Spain.
