The old guard, a new Netflix action movie, was the most-streamed movie on the platform this past weekend. Starring Charlize Theron as a non-average superhero, the film is quickly drawing admirers and critical acclaim. But that means we will get a The old guard continuation? This is what the director, Gina Prince-Blythewood, and the writer, Greg Rucka, had to say.
‘The Old Guard’, based on the comic of the same name, is trending on Netflix
The story of The old guard It comes from a graphic novel written by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Leandro Fernández. Rucka (who wrote the script) and director Prince-Blythewood took the well-reviewed comic book on immortal superheroes and made it the Netflix movie.
The old guard the film covers the same material as the graphic novel The old guard: opening fire, a comic consisting of 5 numbers, published in 2017.
The first number of The old guard: multiplied strength (the second book in the series) came out in 2019, and the next issue will be released in September this year. So the material for the sequels already exists, but do the director and writer want to keep doing The old guard?

In an interview with Collider, Prince-Blythewood explained how he felt about the idea of a Old guard continuation.
“I would really have to think about that,” he admitted. “Two years have passed, and as soon as I leave now, I am eager to rest.”

She expanded the thought:
I would probably feel two ways about it. If it continues, I was the first to establish it, but it would probably bother me as well and say, ‘The Nile doesn’t do that!’ So I just don’t know.
Answering a separate question about the end of the movie, The old guard The director revealed, “I want you to want more, but again it’s totally up to the audience.” (Also, if you didn’t get it – there’s a post-credits scene!)
Continuing to discuss the film’s conclusion, Prince-Blythewood explained that he kept it fairly open because “it was part of the graphic novel.” She continued:
I always loved it because I felt there would have been a hole, if it hadn’t ended the way it did. … I know how I feel when things are left open, but for me, we tell the story. It has a beginning, a middle, and an end. And then there is a hint and a chance for more, but that absolutely depends on the audience.
She did acknowledge that the author, Rucka, “has always imagined[[[[The old guard]as a trilogy. ”
“I know where the story is going and it’s pretty silly,” Prince-Blythewood told Collider. “So if the public wants more, there certainly are more stories to tell.”
Graphic novel writer comments on idea for Netflix movie sequel
Rucka, the author of the graphic novel of The old guard, also commented on the idea of a sequel in an interview with Looper:
There’s a full three-part story that can be told and, if God wants it to be a success, Netflix comes back and says, ‘Hey, let’s do it again.’ There is more to tell and there are questions we want to answer. But now, I have to tell you this: If this is all we have, I’m going to be a very happy guy.
based on The old guardThe initial success (it ranked No. 1 in the United States its first weekend), as well as the creative team’s openness to the idea, seems likely that we’ll get another one in the series.
