Will the Cleveland Indians welcome Zach Plesace, Mike Clevinger? Hi, Hoynsie

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Do you have a question you want to answer in Hey, Hoynsie? Post it here or on Twitter @hoynsie. You can also enter Subtext here as Hoynsie text at 216-208-4346 for a two-week trial.

Hi, Hoynsie: Do you have any ‘feelings’ about how Zach Plesac and Mike Clevinger will be received by their teammates when and when they return from Classic Park, the team’s alternative training site? It seems that this can be a big problem as far as the harmonies of clubhouse are concerned. – Hank Greer, Seabrook, SC

Hey, Hank: I think we will return to the rotation at least one of them next week. How they are accepted by the rest of the team will be a fascinating part of this season. There comes a point that talent, especially when needed, is hard to ignore.

Mike Clevinger

Hi, Hoynsie: Athletes are good at compartmentalizing, but do you think Zach Plesac and Mike Clevinger will be able to pick up where they left off when they re-participate in the rotation of the Indians? – Bill Paris, Franklin, Ten ..

Hey, Bill: If they came back from a minor injury, I have no doubt they could finally find their groove. This is different. They need to win back the clubhouse and coaching staff. Then they have to take the mound and produce it. I’m not smart enough to give you an answer as to whether they can do that, but I do remember what Gabe Paul, former president of the Indians, once said: “Baseball is a team game played by nine people.”

Cleveland Indians vs. Chicago Cubs, August 12, 2020

Indian Judge Adam Cimber.Joshua Gunter, cleveland.com

Hey Hoynsie: What is the early feedback on the new rule over three tackles for pitchers? With the Indian starters going deep into games, it is difficult to measure how to see if there is a change in relief strategy. – Cindy, Strongsville.

Hey, Cindy: Acting manager Sandy Alomar was asked that question before Friday night’s game. He said the rule has made it difficult to use right- and left-handed specialists because they have to hit three batters or pitch until the end of an inning when entering a game.

Lefty Oliver Perez has done well with the new rule, getting lefties and righties. But Judge Adam Cimber made his first appearance since Aug. 12 on Friday night against the Tigers, as matchup situations were sometimes not in his favor.

Cleveland Indians v Pittsburgh Pirates

Hi, Hoynsie: Shortstop Francisco Lindor does not seem to be enjoying himself. Does the mask hide his usual smile or is he really not satisfied? – Brent, Hunting Valley.

Hey, Brent: Lindor is still having fun, but I think he’s frustrated because he’s not hit well and the season is approaching the halfway point.

Rob Manfred

Commissioner Rob Manfred.AP

Hi, Hoynsie: MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred has made changes to speed up the game. So far they have worked? – Don Shaughnessy, Ashtabula.

Hi, Don: The average time for a nine-inning MLB game in 2019 was a record 3:05:11. The average time in 2018 had dropped to 3:00:44.

This year, the Indians are averaging 3:01 for a game of nine. Last year it was 3:02. Thursday night, the Indians defeated the Pirates, 2-0, but the game took 3:24. That’s a long time for a game with two runes.

Two rules implemented due to the coronavirus have definitely shortened gaming – the automatic runner rule and the seven-resident doubleheader rule. The first rule places a runner on second base in every half inning of an extra-inning game. The second rule says that every game of a doubleheader will be seven instead of nine innings.

Shane Bieber

Indian right-hander Shane Bieber is 5-0 this season.AP

Hi, Hoynsie: The Indians do what a good team does – beat the bad teams and play even with the good ones. Do you believe they will go through with this? – Larry Wilson. Massillon.

Hey, Larry: The Indians stand 11-3 against teams with loss of records (Detroit, Kansas City, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati). They stand 5-7 against teams with winning records (Twins, Cubs and White Sox).

What the question is whether they can continue with this trend will only tell the time.

Cleveland Indian pitcher Triston McKenzie throws

Indian right-hand man Triston McKenzie.Joshua Gunter, cleveland.com

Hi, Hoynsie: With Triston McKenzie making his big league debut on Saturday, tell us more about his previous arm injury, what are his physical features, best pitches and speed? – Bob, Louisville.

Hey, Bob: McKenzie is 6-5 and 165 pounds. He missed the entire 2019 season with a tight right rotator cuff and right pectoral muscle. He missed the first half of the 2018 season with a tight right arm and has never thrown up above Class AA Akron.

Pitching coaches Carl Willis and Ruben Niebla say McKenzie’s top two pitches are fastball and curveball. He throws his fastball between 92 mph and 96 mph. Its curveball records between 77 mph and 80 mph. He also throws a shift (84 mph-87 mph) and a shift (81 mph-84 mph). The scout report says he has a good life on his fastball in the stretch zone.

Cleveland Indians Vs. Chicago Cubs

Indian manager Terry Francona.Joshua Gunter, cleveland.com

Hi, Hoynsie: Given all the health problems Terry Francona has had to deal with over the last several years, do you think this could be his last year as manager of the Indians? – Janice DiCuccio, Columbus.

Hey Janice: I hope not, because he is good at what he does. Francona, signed through 2022, loves managing and loves working with team managers Chris Antonetti and Mike Chernoff.

He has certainly had one of the best runs of any manager in the history of the team. As acting manager Sandy Alomar said Friday, ‘We need Tito back. This is his team. ”
