The way so far

On June 22, Sasha Banks and Bayley defeated The IIconics in Monday Night Raw. During the post-game celebration, Sasha Banks admitted that she was a little jealous of her best friend, Bayley Dos Straps. For a moment it seemed that Sasha wanted to name herself as the challenger of the Slap women’s championship, but DING DONG challenged Asuka instead.

Asuka, in true Empress form, did not hesitate to agree to face Sasha in Extreme Rules and they signed a rather explosive contract the following Monday. Sasha (complete with Boss StampTM) made it clear that she was not only looking to become # 2BeltzBanks, but it was the first step in her and Bayley’s plan to “take over the whole damn company.”

After the signing of the contract, Asuka and Banks began to surround each other for weeks, both inside and outside the ring, the RAW and Slap. Add to mix Nikki Cross (Bayley’s Extreme Rules challenger), Alexa Bliss and Kairi Sane, and you have weeks full of entertaining matches to keep the fire alive and the dispute between Sasha and Asuka without falling into the classic WWE trap of repeat, repeat, repeat.

In the episode go home to RAW, Bayley and Banks were victorious again defending their tag titles against the Kabuki Warriors in a very Close match Asuka almost beat Sasha for her belt, now it’s Sasha’s turn to see if she can dethrone the RAW women’s champion.

What is at stake?

The real question, an evergreen question that seems when it comes to anything involving Banks and Bayley, will this coincidence be one step closer to Banks vs. Bayley 2.0?

Sasha has already made it clear that she wants two belts, but if she can’t beat Asuka, does that mean she will turn her gaze back to her best friend? Or is this another red herring?

If Sasha loses and faces Bayley, she plays a part in the narrative we all expect from the Models to follow, but if she wins that opens up a whole new field of possibilities. Bayley and Banks have been KILLING him at all three brands and carrying so much gold could result in some interesting challenges.

Also, consider how satisfying it would be if you both wore two belts for a while and then Bayley loses his championship first. Will Bayley be as kind as Sasha was in the “side kick” role, or will she be vindictive and cruel?

Lots of possibilities for # 2BeltsBanks, but she has to beat Asuka first and that is no small task.
