LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – The Ingham County Health Department says the dates listed in Saturday’s coronavirus site exposure notice should be taken seriously.
At least three people who were at the Riverfront Animal Hospital in Lansing, from June 23 to July 2, tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The health department advises people who were at the Lansing Veterinary Clinic at that time to monitor for symptoms of respiratory illness and possibly seek evidence.
“It is not a time window that we assume someone could have been there. Each of those dates are dates that someone known as a positive COVID was on site at that location, ”said Health Officer Linda Vail. “There was an awareness during that time that something was going on and testing was underway and still people were still on site.”
This is only the second incident in Ingham County that the health department decided to issue a public exposure site notice. Vail says that is due to the amount of time someone was positive COVID-19 within Riverfront Animal Hospital and the number of people they may have been in contact with.
“We received the news that it would be very difficult for her to tell all the clients who were there during that time period, so we sent the public notice,” Vail said.
The only other time was the notice from Harper’s Bar & Grill.
The health department is investigating and suspects there will be additional positive cases. The veterinary clinic posted a notice on their doorstep earlier in the week, announcing they would close Thursday.
“The notice came to the door about the closure and at the time it said there was a confirmed positive case and other suspicious cases. That was not – no one called us about it. That is something we all had to find out later, so I don’t know. When. You’re posting a note on your door right then and the time apparently already knew that, “Vail said.
The health department is now waiting for a complete list of employees so they can expand contact tracking.
Hopefully this is much smaller than a bar situation. As you know, a bar is a very high risk situation. We look forward to some of these little outbreaks, we just hope we don’t have to do a lot of public notifications. What if people are doing the right things that don’t end up being necessary, “Vail said.
