The Patriots’ starting quarterback in 2021 is likely to be different than in 2021.
But why isn’t Newton planning to retire.
During an appearance on Brandon Marshall’s podcast, the quarterback was asked about the possibility he might stop playing.
“Hell no! I can’t get out. I hear all that talk. My pride will not allow me to do that, ”Newton said, via The Karen’s Gurezian Boston Herald. “32 individuals are no better than me.”
The Patriots coach praised Newton throughout the season as the club finished 7-9 in 2020. But he was one of the league’s most effective passers, throwing just 2,657 yards with eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also ran for 592 yards with 12 touchdowns and caught a pair of 35-yard passes with TD.
Newton will become a free agent when the New League starts on March 17. It is not clear what his market will be, although his former head coach Ron Rivera opened the door to a possible reunion in Washington and Washington earlier this month.
