Why did Newton pull, for the pets in the Jarrett Stadium

After the third interception of the day, New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton was dragged into a 33-36 defeat against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

Newton struggled all game against 49 players, completing 9 of 15 passes for just 98 yards, no touchdowns, three interceptions and a 39.7 rating. He was replaced by Jarrett Stidham.

Newton was stopped by Jamar Taylor on the Patriots’ final drive in the third quarter, with the Patriots trailing 30-6 at the time. Newton then kicked Patriots coach Bill Belichick in the leg and the stadium warmed up.

This was Stidham’s second appearance this year after Brian Hoyer came to the rescue when Newton was rejected and placed on the reserve / COVID-19 list. Stidham struggled in its second relief appearance, completing a 6-10-pass for 64 yards, no touchdowns, a hurdle and a 39.2 rating.

In a memorable afternoon footnote, Newton reached the yard passing 30,000 careers and became the first NFL player with 30,000-plus passing yards and 5,000-plus rushing yards, according to NFL research.

However, this past Sunday, Newton’s past standouts were clearly overlooked by the day’s struggles as the Patriots fell to 2-4 with their third consecutive loss.
