Why Barstool Sports is unlikely to receive any naming rights from Buffalo Bills Stadium

The Buffalo Bills announced Thursday that the stadium formerly known as New Era Field will be referred to as Bills Stadium.

Buffalo admitted that the name is temporary because they are looking for a new partner for naming rights.

“As we continue the transition process from New Era Field to a new partner for naming rights, we will be officially using the name Bills Stadium for our home in Orchard Park,” an official statement said.

Just hours after the announcement, Dave Portnoy declared on social media that Barstool Sports was ‘very serious’ about buying the naming rights to the Bills house.

“After a brief conversation with those who matter, I am here to say that we are very serious about purchasing the naming rights of the Buffalo Bills Stadium and will enter the process,” Portnoy tweeted.

Portnoy and Barstool Sports are now the second group to announce their intention to bid on naming rights via social media. TUSHY, a bidet maker, announced its interest shortly after New Era and the Bills agreed to end its deal.

TUSHY offered up to $ 12.5 million for naming rights at the stadium and promised to bring a college game, called the Toilette Bowl, to West New York.

However, that offer was rejected by Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz. According to Poloncarz, all names are subject to state and state approval. He added that anything that embarrasses the community on arrival is dead because of the lease they are negotiating with the Bills.

Poloncarz’s reason for rejecting TUSHY will probably be the same reason why Barstool Sports’ offer will not go very far.

Even though Barstool Stadium will not soon become the Bills’ home, Portnoy’s statement of interest on social media is a great publicity stunt for the company.
