Angela Deem and Michael Ilesanmi meet Michael’s Aunt Lydia
Angela and Michael still do not have much time left to plan their difficult nuptials, so they meet with Lydia to discuss further matters. It is also important for Lydia to be on the run because she said the family would help with some of the marriage costs.
Aunt Lydia immediately asks about the married child that the couple went to that is required for her to be approved to marry. Angela points out that the people she talks to want her to be ‘submissive.’ She tells Lydia that in America women do the same jobs as men, and men and women are considered equal.
“That’s not the case in Nigeria,” explains Aunt Lydia. “Even if you do the same job, the man is still the head.”
Angela’s reaction is costly. “Thank God we live in America,” she says as she looks in Michael’s direction.

Michael tries to tell Angela how he feels about the situation. ‘Angie, but you know my culture will still be a part of our daily activities,’ Michael tries to tell Angela, who is not trying to hear it.
Angela responds by making a comment about how Michael is with her. “It seems to me … to Aunt Lydia, you’re not who you tell me you are,” Angela says bluntly to Michael at the table. “For Aunt Lydia, you’re shooting her a bull.” Michael says he is not, to whom Angela replies, “OK, then shoot me a bull bull,” Angela tells him. Michael tries to get to the whole thing, but it’s too late.
Angela clearly feels that Michael is acting differently for his aunt Lydia, and tries to make both sides happy. ‘You told me you were going to stand on your own two feet. What’s going on now? Lydia asked Michael. It sounds like Michael is trying to please both Angela and his family, but it does not seem to be going so well at the moment.
Michael makes the mistake of using “submissive”, and that is when things take a turn. “This is the reason I’m afraid to marry him,” Angela reveals. “If you think you’ll come there and live with me and I will bow to you, I will not bow to you or any living man, lady.”
Angela worries that Michael may act one way with her and another with his family. She worries that he just tells her what she wants to hear, and then he could change when the time comes. It’s about Angela because she wants to bring him to the United States to live with her.
‘I told him how I am’
Angela explains that Michael knew from the beginning how she was about things. ‘At the beginning of this relationship I told him how I am. I told him the truth, ”Angela told producers. “That I’m getting frustrated because I really do not know if Michael is lying to me about submissiveness, or that I’m lying to his family that I will be.”
When Angela gets up to go to the bathroom, Lydia tells Michael that Angela is “boss.” “She wants to be the boss,” Lydia tells Michael. “She’s boss, can’t you see that?” When Angela returns, Lydia makes a remark: “But with this kind of attitude, I do not know about your marriage.”
Angela says she’s done talking, and she runs away. She says the wedding is off, and it’s unclear where things are going from here for Angela and Michael. Can they get this together? Time will tell.
