The Seattle Seahawks will appear at training camp on Tuesday, and when they do, it appears the team will report with just 80 players on the roster. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the NFL has reduced the roster size to 80, and the team reserves the right to retain 90 players if they divide the team during practice at different facilities. For the Seahawks, however, the decision made was apparently to cut ten players and move on with the rest.
The @Seahawks quit 7 players and terminated the contracts of 2 others this afternoon.

FROM Branden Jackson– Seahawks PR (@seahawksPR) July 26, 2020
Joey Hunt and Branden Jackson were two of the four restricted free agents for the Hawks this offseason, and while both contributed and started throughout 2019, the team was ready to move on without them. Jackson was the only defensive lineman affected by Sunday’s moves, as the team chose to move from Jackson with several younger players potentially ready to take over. Some of the names that will seek to capture the snapshots Jackson played in 2019 are Rasheem Green, LJ Collier, Darrell Taylor, and Alton Robinson.
Meanwhile, Hunt was fired after the first extended playing time of his career in 2019. Starting the last eight games of the season after Justin Britt suffered a torn ACL, Hunt was sometimes beaten while playing due to injury, and the Adding BJ Finney of the Pittsburgh Steelers into free agency apparently spelled the end of the road in Seattle for Britt and Hunt.
Best of luck to the players who were released, and Field Gulls will be here to keep fans up-to-date on the news as players show up for training camp in the coming days.
The nine-player launch on Sunday brings the Seahawks to 81 players, meaning there is potentially one more move to make. Alternatively, the main office may know that one of the current players intends to opt out of playing in 2020 due to the pandemic.
