‘Whiteout, Brutal Condition’ on I-70, Closed in Colorado Mountains, Footthills and Out East – CBS Denver

(CBS4) – Authorities shut down Interstate 70 in the foothills of Colorado during a snowstorm that slammed the state on Sunday. Nothing is going well on the eastern plains.

As of 1:45 a.m., the following areas of I-70 had weather related dams:

– Golden to Floyd Hill (on the border of Clear Creek County and Jefferson County)
en All routes to Burlington near Airpark Road, Colorado-Kansas border in Rora
– Eastbound Silverthurn to Georgetown

Colorado State Patrol officials said in a tweet that the conditions on Flood Hill are: “Brutally cruel conditions.”

Some drivers from outside the state are trying to get to Colorado ski resorts amid the snow. A family in Rlando, Florida, told CBS4 that they were caught in the snow with details of the I-70.

“We’re going to Breaknridge for skiing. The girls had to use the restroom. We couldn’t make it up the hill with a two-wheel drive truck, so we backed up and he put it in the pit, “said one family member.

“What advice would you give to others if you were driving in Burst for the first time?” Asked Justin Adams of CBS4.

“If you’re going to rent a vehicle, make sure it’s not a 2-wheel drive but a 4-wheel drive,” he replied with a laugh. “Other than that, hey, this is about it.”

The family was able to lend a rope and found themselves to go again. But they probably are. Don’t forget their March ski trip to Colorado soon.

According to meteorologist Ashton Altiari, snowfall warnings, winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories continue in many areas of the state, with additional accumulation expected in all areas.
