Did you know that there is a shortage of coins in the United States? You probably haven’t noticed, unless you I need them to wash clothes.

The Federal Reserve is monitoring currency supply levels because banks across the country are running out of business. The United States Mint made fewer coins this spring due to the coronavirus pandemic, but circulation is also an issue, NPR Notes While people followed orders to stay home, they did not throw their full jars of change into coin counting machines, and they did not use cash to pay for purchases at many companies that remained open but tried to reduce contact.

Some stores customers have asked pay with exact change if you use cash, or disable cash transactions in the self-pay lanes.

As people begin to spend more money on in-person purchases and the distribution of coins by the Federal Reserve, this problem will likely fade into our memory. That is, unless you run out of socks and underwear, and you’ve already fished between the sofa cushions for rooms.

I was yelled at for my part by the laundries for diving in to exchange $ 10 for a few rooms before sneaking out to do the laundry in my own building. Therefore, when I am desperate for rooms and away from my bank, I usually visit the customer service counter of a grocery store to request the exchange.

But if Reddit discussions like this they are an indication, some grocery stores have stopped delivering quarter rolls or have substantially reduced the number of rolls they will exchange.

If your local convenience store can’t help you out of this clothing jam, it may be time to start paying as much as you can in cash and cross your fingers for part of your change to come back in the form of blessed and cherished rooms.

Or you can try the vending machine trick. While its success rate may vary, the Reddit user IWBSedatedRightMeow swears by it:

Go to any vending machine and place dolla dolla bills, then press the return exchange button. They usually have a fair amount of rooms in them.

What I also like to do is pick up my dime and dime and put them in the machine until it reaches $ 1, then press the return change button to get more coins. Repeat.
