It’s been around for a while, but expected Xbox Series X pre-orders to go live much sooner. Unfortunately, short of an official announcement from Microsoft, “before too long” is the best prediction we have for when pre-orders will go live. If you just came here for the console wars, you can read about where you can sign up for pre-order notifications for PS5 on our special PlayStation page for the subject.

Specifications for Xbox Series X

Microsoft released the official technical specs of the Xbox Series X on February 24, promising 12 teraflops of graphics processing power and compatibility backwards back to the original Xbox console.

Here is a quick overview of the technical specifications of the Xbox Series X:

  • Custom designed AMD Zen 2 and RDNA 2 processor
  • A “patented form” of variable rate shading (VRS)
  • DirectX raytracing (hardware accelerated)
  • SSD storage
  • HDMI 2.1
  • 120fps support

The console’s Velocity architecture, Microsoft Says, should mean we see smaller game file sizes, smaller and faster loading, along with other direct benefits. Microsoft also unveiled the Xbox Series X UI, saying its new interface reduces charging times to the home screen at startup and upon return of a game.

Release Date of Xbox Series X

The only official word we have about the release date of the Xbox Series X is that it is “Holiday 2020.” will launch. We got a start on the launch of the Xbox Series X in early August, when packaging for advanced Xbox controllers wore a sticker reading “Do Not Sell or Display by November 6th.” That’s the closest we’re come to an actual date so far, but Microsoft has not yet confirmed it.

The same leak also revealed a possible Xbox Series S, the long-awaited second version of the upcoming Xbox hardware.

Xbox Series X Game Awards

Pricing on next-gen games is a bit complicated. Many Xbox Series X-compatible games launching this fall, including Ubisoft’s fall lineup, will cost $ 60. Others, like NBA 2K21, will cost $ 70. Next year and beyond, a $ 70 MSRP is likely to become more and more common for Xbox Series X titles.

Xbox Series X Games

Thanks to Microsoft’s years of pressure for backwards compatibility, Xbox Series X will launch with “thousands of games.” Some of the major launch window titles announced include Halo Infinite, Cyberpunk 2077, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
