In order to lift weights in general, evening is preferred as our body temperature is normal. However, this may not be the case for all. It all depends on one person. Some people prefer to do weight training even in the afternoon.
According to research, evening weight training may be the best option. This is due to the action of two hormones, which are believed to play an important role in building muscle: cortisol and testosterone.
Cortisol, among other things that contribute to it, also helps control blood sugar levels by breaking down muscle tissue when needed. This process is called catabolism. Testosterone, on the other hand, helps build muscle using proteins, known as anabolism. Levels of both cortisol and testosterone are highest in the morning, while cortisol levels drop by evening.
Studies suggest that cortisol has the highest testosterone ratio, which can be beneficial in muscle building.
