The New York Giants suddenly find themselves with between $ 10 million and $ 13 million of additional salary space (depending on who you ask) here in 2020 after Nate Solder’s decision to opt out.
Potentially, it opens up several different options for the team, which is good news considering they have so many different needs.
However, there is a caveat that we will address at the end of this article. Until then, here is a look at several different things the Giants could do with that money.
Sign CB Logan Ryan
With sophomore cornerback DeAndre Baker included on the commissioner’s exemption list and his future at East Rutherford uncertain, the Giants could definitely use the aid alongside veteran James Bradberry.
For much of the offseason, it has been speculated that the Giants would flee to Ryan, but that has not materialized.
Well now might be the time, right?
Even if the Giants are wary of using the money saved by Solder’s opt-out, they could get some of that back if Baker loses his appeal and then the Giants pursue his salary. A breakdown of Baker’s finances can be found at Spotrac.
With youth and inexperience the only thing behind Bradberry in the depth chart, Ryan’s addition could be seen as positive, even given his inconsistency on the field. He is still considered one of the best remaining free agents.
