In addition to being more affordable than most iconic true wireless headphones, the WF-1000XM3 outperforms much of the competition. Sony’s new QN1e noise-canceling chip blocks out any distractions while using less energy than ever to do so. At the same time, Sony offers more depth of sound than other true wireless headphones, with “solid performance across a wide range of genres,” we wrote in our review. That’s aided by Sony’s “Digital Sound Enhancement Engine” that boosts compressed audio from Spotify and other services, making it more like high-resolution audio.
If you are not satisfied with the sound right away, you can always use the Sony companion app to adjust the equalizer, turn up the bass, and make other adjustments. You also don’t have to worry about dropouts, as Sony’s latest Bluetooth chip bundles ring both headphones at the same time. Finally, battery life is class-leading at six hours with an active noise canceling charge enabled, or eight hours if it is turned off.
The only potential drawbacks are the size, which is larger than Sony’s previous truly wireless WF-SP700N model. However, they should remain for the most part once you find the right tip. In any case, as long as you are partial to the silver color, you will not find them cheaper.
