Like most other cases that come with noise-canceling headphones, the Shield case closes around the AirPod Max and provides complete protection. If you’re in it for some reason, you can store the headphones on their own or with an Apple Pal case. From the inside, you’ll find a plush liner to avoid scratches; It’s the same soft liner and water turf used in laptop pouches in their leather messenger bags. (I have that bag and can confirm that the plush liner is absurdly soft.) There’s also an internal mesh pouch that can hold 20W of power bricks and charging cables.

Inside is also a clever AirPods Max-specific feature: a magnetic “butterfly” separates the two ear cups and triggers the low-power mode of the headphones. When the AirPods Max finally goes into low-power mode, it’s nice to see that Waterfield’s Shield case mimics the only useful feature Apple has created in its own case.
On the outside, the two zippers close the shield case, which means you can leave it slightly open and plug the AirPod Max to charge. There’s also a grab handle on top, which will make the case easier by pulling from the backpack. The case also has two more pouches on the outside: a mesh back pocket for quick access and a zipper front pocket for things you want to secure. It comes in red, blue or black leather with waxed canvas trim on the front exterior brown leather or black ballistic nylon trim.

I’ve used waterfield products for years, so I admit I’m probably biased – but I know they usually make really smart decisions in their design, whether it’s for a general purpose laptop bag or for a special gadget like this. Created case. It’s not cheap at $ 99, but the company makes everything by hand in small bheshes and the quality is always consistent and excellent. There aren’t many other third-party cases on the market yet, but that will change soon if you want something a little less expensive. But the Water Turf Shield case looks like a cleverly designed product for headphones that need more protection than Apple’s offer fur.
