Watch the surreal video of Evanescence, filmed on iPhone, ‘The game is over’

Evanescence takes advantage of the quarantine fever with her surreal video filmed on iPhone for the new single “The Game Is Over”.

The clip, which the band filmed themselves (in collaboration with director PR Brown), maximizes its limited resources with a variety of creepy effects and blank looks. Musicians scream, stand against blank walls, smear lipstick and put on masks as distortion and violent percussion rise to operatic heights.

“The Game Is Over” is the second preview of Evanescence’s upcoming album The bitter truth, their first batch of original songs in nine years.

“This song is about being fed up with the facade,” singer Amy Lee said in a statement. “The costumes we use to make others feel comfortable, the inner feelings are very different from what we show on the outside so that they fit within the limits of what is socially acceptable, or what will not make you unpleasant or too ‘strange’ to be around.

“‘The Game is Over’ is a promise to myself and out loud that I will be more of my real self and inner being on the outside, not locking her up because she can no longer be contained,” she continued. “It is also a prayer to improve, not to feel so disordered, locked up and hurt inside.”

The bitter truth – which follows 2017 Synthesis, filled with instrumental renovations of old songs, will be released later this year. The new record also features the lead single “Wasted on You”, which they combined with another quarantine video.
