Chuck D and Flavor Flav gathered alongside Public Enemy Radio’s Jahi for the updated song to acknowledge the current landscape, acknowledging the protests and protests stemming from the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, Nina Pop and the countless people. of the black community that we have lost due to racism and police brutality.

The remake includes talents from The Roots’ Black Thought and Questlove, as well as Nas, Rapsody and YG, bringing a lyrical touch to the song originally released in 1989 and featured in Spike Lee’s “Do the Right Thing”.

More than 30 years later, the song remains a hymn to racial injustice. Nasal blows “They say suicide when corpses sway / cowards are hunting black men, that’s what I’m seeing.” Later he adds: “I am fighting power right now / Thanks to you, Flav and PE are crushing him / Putting your life in danger so he can rap now” as images of protests across the country.
