Laura Marling performed in front of the Pyramid Stage as part of the BBC’s The Glastonbury Experience 2020 yesterday (June 27).
The singer-songwriter was one of many artists to be featured on the Worthy Farm festival bill before he was forced to cancel due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Marling played a version of her song ‘Strange Girl’, which appears on her latest album ‘Song For Our Daughter’, in front of the Pyramid Stage structure, cows and a plane. In compliance with social distancing regulations, Marling did not join her backup band for the performance. Check it out now.
The performance was part of a special BBC broadcast on the Glastonbury site. Festival fans began to speculate that a live show could still happen at Worthy Farm this weekend after trucks that looked like broadcast trucks were seen on the festival’s official webcam.
In addition to Marling, Glastonbury 2020 was due to appearances by headliners Kendrick Lamar, Paul McCartney, and Taylor Swift, as well as Lana Del Rey, Haim, Dizzee Rascal, Thom Yorke, and more. Festival organizer Emily Eavis said the Glastonbury team is now “hosting two festivals together by 2021” and hoped McCartney would headline next year.
Meanwhile, Chris Martin and Michael Eavis have recalled how replacing The Strokes at the annual Pilton Party event for the Glastonbury locals led Coldplay to headline the festival for the first time.
Eavis said he offered the band the highlight for the 2002 festival after they stepped in for the smallest show at the last minute, but his agents and managers told him they were “not entirely ready.” “I said, ‘But he is, he’s an absolutely perfect headliner,'” Eavis explained. “And of course, [Martin] It was – and you’ve never looked back since that concert, right?
“2002 on Friday night was so good. Every song he makes is a success. He is very good. He is a great star. Every time you play, it gets better every time. We long for him to return, of course. You can come and call and milk at any time. “
