We know quite a bit about the PlayStation 5 controller. For starters, it has a two-tone aesthetic that looks dramatically different from the DualShock 4 and all of the PlayStation pads that came before it. (I still think it looks like a little robot Detroit: become human.) We know that it features adaptive triggers that can provide resistance during games (to simulate the feeling of drawing a bow or driving a car through thick mud), better rumble, sorry, “haptic feedback”, and a microphone. The lightbar has been moved to the sides of the touchpad, the Share button is now a ‘Create’ shortcut, and the Home button resembles the classic PlayStation logo.
But what is holding like? Do you notice the extra weight on your hands? And is the battery life better than the DualShock 4 unreasonably bad? Hopefully Geoff Keighley, the creator of The Game Awards, can answer at least some of these questions today. The journalist and presenter will present “a first look (and game)” of the new controller on YouTube at 12pm ET / 9am PT. We don’t know what games it will start, but Ghost of tsushima comes out today and Insomniac’s Spiderman It has been used on numerous occasions to show the power of the system behind closed doors.
