SEATTLE – Raging wildfires in the Pacific Northwest have sparked a haunt of misinformation this week as unsupported social media posts have blamed coordinated groups of refugees from both the far left and far side for organizing the blaze.
Officials squashed competitive stories back to Facebook on Wednesday and Thursday – some posts blamed far-left Antifa activists and others said the proud, proud group was responsible for the fires that engulfed large parts of Oregon and Washington state.
“Remember when we only asked to follow official sources,” the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in Oregon posted. “Remember when we said that rumors make this already difficult event harder? Rumors spread like wildfire and now our 9-1-1 dispatch and professional staff are being requested and interrogated for information, which has led to the arrest of 6 Antifa members for allegedly setting fire to 6D Anti Glass County, Oregon. “

The fire in the small Oregon towns of Phoenix and Talent caused extensive damage, the Medford Police Department posted on Facebook that authorities have not arrested the Boy of Pride or anyone associated with Antifa, a series of under-left terrorist groups. Which opposes white supremacists.
Medford police also debunked a fake graphic spread online using the department’s logo and numerous 2018 arrest photos for falsely claiming that five Pride Boys were arrested for arson.
How the fire started is not yet clear, but officials said it has worsened in the region due to strong winds and dry conditions, whose cold, humid climate has historically protected the fire from intense fire activity. Reg Reagan Gov. Kate Brown said the state could see the greatest loss of life and property from wildfires in its history.
In the northwest, particularly in Portland, Ore, far-left and far-right groups are clashing during protests, where a convoy of supporters of President Donald Trump drove pickup trucks from the liberal city last month. An Antifa supporter shot and killed a member of the right-wing group, and a week later, Washington state officials shot him dead.
A picture of a woman was claimed on a social media post on Thursday, claiming she tried to start a fire near a high school in Springfield, Spring Reagan. Springfield police told the Associated Press they spoke with the woman Wednesday and that is not true.

Another post claimed that they were shot after a landlord named Police threw a Molotov cocktail on his land in Clockmas County. The Klakmas County Sheriff’s Office told the AP that no such reports existed.
Thousands of Twitter and Facebook users shared posts trying to link the fire to antifa activists, including Paul L. Romero, a former Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate in Oregon.
Reaching by phone, Romero blamed the increase in fires across the state.
Jackson County Sheriff Nathan Sickler told reporters Wednesday that police are investigating a fire that erupted in Reagan’s Ashland.

However, Ashland’s deputy police chief Art Lacours confirmed to the AP that the case had “nothing to do with Antif.”
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has begun investigating the fire, but no arrests have been made and there is no evidence at this stage of the coordinated effort, spokesman Mike Moore said.
“This investigation takes time,” he said. “They are intense. They are moving fast. And so people should consider: ‘Does this also make sense?’ They should question anything that appears in the social media setting. “
