Alex Smith’s return would have been impressive if he had never returned to the field. The infection was caused by a broken fibula and tibia and 17 surgeries and made him barely able to walk.
Fighting the way back to normal was miraculous.
The 36-year-old Smith now wants the opening quarterback of the Washington football team heading into today’s game against the Cowboys.
Coach Ron Rivera and his staff want Smith back for the 2021 season, sources say. The quarterback room allows not only his leadership, but also how he has played. Smith has not said publicly or privately whether he wants to play in 2021, but he is under contract until 2022.
Smith is set to make ડો 19 million next season, which is a fairly reasonable rate for Bridge Quarterback, as the WFT continues to search for its next franchise QB – be it Dwayne Haskins, Kyle Allen or acquired in a trade or draft.
In the last two games, Smith has gone from 55 to 80 for 556 yards with a touchdown and interception. A close loss to the Lions included a fourth-quarter drive that almost won the game, and then cruise control victory over the Bengals.
From his performance in mid-November, Rivera announced that “he is back as a player.” The team would love to continue that.
The Washington Washington quarterback’s room now has Smith and Huskins, although the hins skins can be a bargain for a fresh start. Allen is currently on the injured reserve but is expected to make a full recovery.
The team wants the high-profile Smith to return, both to serve as a mentor for the future and because his game itself guarantees a shot of being a starter.
