Washington activates LB Reuben Foster of PUP list

Washington activated linebacker Reuben Foster of the physical inability to perform list on Sunday, less than two weeks after the team returned to work.

Foster had pulled the lateral collateral ligament and the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on the first day of organized team activity work in May 2019. He also suffered nerve damage in his foot, which extended his recovery time.

The Washington veterans were able to begin work Tuesday, though teams for now are for the most part limited to conditioning and transit.

Foster, dismissed by Washington on November 27, 2018, has yet to play for the team. The San Francisco 49ers awaited him on arrest for domestic violence, and the NFL placed him on the commissioner’s release list for the rest of the season. Prosecutors eventually dropped the charges. An earlier arrest earlier in 2018 for domestic violence accusers against the same woman resulted in the judge dismissing the accusers.

He is expected to challenge for a starting job as an outside linebacker in Washington’s refurbished 4-3 defense. Washington also has second-year Cole Holcomb and veteran Thomas Davis who can also play outside.

San Francisco caught Foster in the first round in 2017. Due to injuries and his arrest in 2018, Foster started 16 games in two years.

On Friday, Washington returned Derrius Guice behind his arrest on domestic violence prosecutors, stemming from three separate incidents earlier in 2020.
