Want to know if your power might be cut off shortly? PG&E has a complicated tool for trying to figure it out | Lost Coast Outpost

PG&E may or may not soon shut down power for some or much of Humboldt County, along with the rest of the state, as a result of the breakthrough weight placed on the grid by the scorching heat wave that pollutes the entire state. (Except us!)

How do you know if you’ll be cut off this afternoon or evening? There are two, conflicting methods. One can be trusted on this Facebook post from supervisor Rex Bohn, who claims that many of Eureka and McKinleyville and some other locations in the county are scheduled to go 6pm when rolling blackouts are in fact necessary:

The second method is to do a special dose-do set up by PG&E itself. This method has two steps.

Step one: Look up your “block number” by entering your address in the form on this page. Remember that number for exit block.

Step two: Go to this page and scroll about halfway down to the table with three columns listing scheduled outages per group, deposition block, and time list. Find your exit block in the range in the second column, and then find the (potential) planned exit time in the corresponding right column.

Contrary to what Supervisor Bohn places above, most of the addresses we have checked seem to indicate that power will go to a large part of the province at 8 o’clock, if it really needs to drop.

Glad we could finish that! However, be prepared for a power outage.
